Overview

Team AIMS accomplishes the dual goal of personal and community development by integrating the community into its fitness activities. Our fiscal year is January 1 – December 31. Our operating plan for running activities begins in January to prepare for training programs and races.

History

Team AIMS also completed two initiatives in the past, as the building blocks to our community oriented running mission. They were:

  1. Run to Serve a “Graam” (the word means a village) whereby the funds collected from training programs were spent in improving infrastructure and education in a specific village. This program enabled Team AIMS to benefit several villages.
  2. Little Drops, which was an initiative started in 2011 in Maryland, USA to instill community support in young minds. The program focused on encouraging youngsters to make micro-contributions from their allowance towards helping fund community projects.

We formally ended both initiatives and integrated them into our current running program called Team AIMS Marathon Training Program (MTP). The funds collected from this program automatically go to benefiting underprivileged people, typically in rural settings (though not limited to rural), and youngsters are part of the AIMS running program, building their own running groups and volunteering at various AIMS and non-AIMS running events.

Training Programs

Currently, we organize two training programs:

  1. AIMS Sofa to 5K training program: This program is aimed at people who are new to running or who are returning to running after a break. This program begins in March and runs for 8 weeks, with the race held towards the end of April.
  2. AIMS Marathon Training Program: This program is aimed at disciplined individuals who need a training plan to prepare for half and full marathons during the fall season of each year. We currently target the Baltimore Running Festival and Marine Corps Marathon as our target races.

Races

Currently, we organize two races:

  1. The AIMS 5K race/run as the “graduation” race for new runners who enrolled in the AIMS Couch to 5K training program.
  2. The AIMS Run on the Rocks race held in the Fall. This race includes a 10 Miler, 13.1 and a 20 miler. It serves as a great graduation race for our training program as well as a good training race for marathoners.
